11 oclock

Well we had a surprise visit today. My dad rocked up for a visit it was really good to see him. My mother is in Ireland at the moment visiting my other sister so my daddy is all alone. He took the kids for a walk to the toy shop and got them all a little surprise. Not Jackson though he got 10 dollars because he is too old now for little toys!! Apparently!!. So yes it was nice to see him and to talk and relax, was it something new, well kinda hes never come on a Saturday without my mum before.

Pain 10/10

Got my tooth pulled today my molar on the top left back. It hurts big time. Thought i would get my teeth seen to as i haven't seen the dentist in a longgggg time. I left a piece of myself there literally. Im too sore to write any more pain level 10/10.

Dressed to the 9s

So ive been trying to spend some more time with Charna (not that our relationship is bad or anything) she just needs a little more attention these days. She also needed new clothes she has nothing to grow into. I normally have a bag of clothes that a generous friend has given me from their daughters but until she is a size 9 i have nothing. SOOO mummy and daughter went shopping and this is only some of the lovely things we bought, yes i made her do a fashion show!

I 8 too many of these

Trying a new Cinnamon scroll recipe i ate way too many of these need i say more!

Ingredients

  • 1 quart Whole Milk
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 packages Active Dry Yeast
  • 8 cups (Plus 1 Cup Extra, Separated) All-purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon (heaping) Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon (scant) Baking Soda
  • 1 Tablespoon (heaping) Salt
  • Plenty Of Melted Butter
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • Generous Sprinkling Of Cinnamon
  • _____
  • MAPLE FROSTING:
  • 1 bag Powdered Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Maple Flavoring
  • ½ cups Milk
  • ¼ cups Melted Butter
  • ¼ cups Brewed Coffee
  • ⅛ teaspoons Salt

Preparation Instructions

Mix the milk, vegetable oil and sugar in a pan. “Scald” the mixture (heat until just before the boiling point). Turn off heat and leave to cool 45 minutes to 1 hour. When the mixture is lukewarm to warm, but NOT hot, sprinkle in both packages of Active Dry Yeast. Let this sit for a minute. Then add 8 cups of all-purpose flour. Stir mixture together. Cover and let rise for at least an hour.

After rising for at least an hour, add 1 more cup of flour, the baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir mixture together. (At this point, you could cover the dough and put it in the fridge until you need it – overnight or even a day or two, if necessary. Just keep your eye on it and if it starts to overflow out of the pan, just punch it down).

When ready to prepare rolls: Sprinkle rolling surface generously with flour. Take half the dough and form a rough rectangle. Then roll the dough thin, maintaining a general rectangular shape. Drizzle 1/2 to 1 cup melted butter over the dough. Now sprinkle 1 cup of sugar over the butter followed by a generous sprinkling of cinnamon.

Now, starting at the opposite end, begin rolling the dough in a neat line toward you. Keep the roll relatively tight as you go. Next, pinch the seam of the roll to seal it.

Spread 1 tablespoon of melted butter in a seven inch round foil cake or pie pan. Then begin cutting the rolls approximately ¾ to 1 inch thick and laying them in the buttered pans.

Repeat this process with the other half of the dough. Let the rolls rise for 20 to 30 minutes, then bake at 400 degrees (see note below) until light golden brown, about 15 to 18 minutes.

For the frosting, mix together all ingredients listed and stir well until smooth. It should be thick but pourable. Taste and adjust as needed. Generously drizzle over the warm rolls. Go crazy and don’t skimp on the frosting.

Note: My rolls don’t work for me at 400 degrees anymore. I now bake them at 375 degrees.

House Number 7

So i was folding Laundry this morning, instructing the children to get ready for school, feeding the baby breakfast, and changing two dirty nappies and i saw a mail truck enter our street. Now i ordered this cook book a few weeks ago and have been anxuosly awaiting for it to arrive. I have actually seen the mail truck come to our street but to different houses so i held my breath and YES!! it turned into my house. I collected the package, opened it and........there it was shining like a christmas light, My new cook book. So i knew that after i took the kids to school i could read it, so i put it on the table for later. When i got home from dropping the kids of at school I remembered that i had a RS meeting at my house ( i knew i had the meeting it just takes a while for the old brain to connect the dots). So I put the book on the bench and pulled out the vacume and got stuck into the daily cleaning. When the phone rang and Kelly asked to come early and cut out a pattern i said sure and put the book in the cupbord to make way for fabric cutting. Our meeting went for four hours (Not all of this meeting was actual " meeting " stuff talk of course). By the time everyone left the kids came home from school and the afternoon chaos starts. It was now or never so i chose now to pull out the cook book and flick through it. So above is a recipe that i thought looked good, and i could get it done quick, steak sandwiches with a kick . Served with herb potatoes, raw broccoli and ranch dressing, and by the way it was YUMMY!!

6 New Fabrics

I went shopping today, it was so much fun! My fabric stash needed an up lift and Spotlight have Quilting fabric on sale right now for $7.45 a meter. So want is new about getting new fabric you ask? Because those who know me know this isn't something new. Since having My baby 7 months ago i have become a hermit. I have five children and i tell you going out with one was fine, two was ok, three was a little handful but by this stage i had only two at home as one was at school. Then four but one again went to school, and now five and another went to school. So what! Ive done two kids at home before right. Well not these two!! they both want to be held and i am more tiered these days you get the picture. So back to my story...... i am trying to re- convince myself that i dont have to stay at home and i can venture out with my two youngest. So yes i took my two babies shopping for fabric ta da!!

5 children

Today was church day, Sunday. In the last few months things have changed for us on Sundays. My husband was called as Branch president of our Branch where we live, and this means we loose him to the stand. I did have a young women sit with us for the last month to help out with the kids, but in the last few weeks Jackson my oldest has decided that he is capable enough to watch them if i need to leave with the baby. So today we tried it and it was great. Jackson Passed the sacrament, while he was doing that Charna held the baby and i Dealt with Tyren. When Jackson joined us again he held Tyren while i left and put the baby to sleep. When i came back i gave the sleeping baby to Jackson and held Tyren. Phew sounds like a lot but with my oldest of 5 by my side we are working it out.

4 Friendship

Tonight i had a lady came over that i have been wanting to become better friends with. We share something, and that is our love of cooking. Liz wanted me to help her reduce some recipes down and i want to have her as a friend so we got together and cooked. I think the hardest part of wanting to do something is actually doing it and we acomplished this tonight. So once a month we can enjoy each others company and cook together. Something new...... Yes a freindship!

I woke up this morning with not much planned and not really knowing what is going to happen in your day is always good kinda, because the day is yours!. Well ive been obsessed with this idea of a strawberry cake and the berry cake was good but this was better. Look at the colour of that cake. The kids loved it and i was so happy to fix this fixation i had.

Catching 2days Sunshine

Looking outside this morning it was hard to believe that the day would end up sunny when the ground was sparkling with icy frost. And then all of a sudden my day was on its way. I had it in my head to go for a walk with the boys today, as my do something new today thing (yes believe it or not i don't do walks with the babies in the cold), but as the day drew onward the time crept by. So when the boys woke up i decided to go and pick my other children up from school by walking to get them. What a buz it was to see their faces when they saw me with the pram. Yes i felt weird walking into the school for my own stupid reasons but WHO CARES! not me now. Taking advantage of the sunshine was great and yes ill probably do it again.

1 Must Sparkle

Well folks ill be up front...i have been feeling a little flat lately, yeah for about 7 months, and im really tiered of feeling this way. Soooo im going to wake myself up! I've always known this about myself; I have alot of interests, i talk alot, and i wear my heart on my sleeve. Ive been thinking for several weeks now how i can rejuvenate myself without going to extremes, or over spending (hehehe) and be realistic about it. Well ive decided that im going to do something new everyday. Something that im interested in that doesn't cost alot and takes me out of my zone, hopefully i will post everyday what i do but yeah well, but ill try now the reason im going to post it is so i can keep myself in check. So to start with i have decided to begin with something i love. I said to my loving husband the other day that i felt like i have lost my mogo in the kitchen. I tell you we have eaten so much spag bol in the past few months i cant stand the thought of it. So i will change this first, oh! and my baking i dont think my new sisters have truly seen this side of me but here we go my first spark back to life lays inside a BERRY CAKE yep you heard a BERRY CAKE. I will put the recipe up but not tonight, but below i have posted a few pics to wet the taste buds. See you again soon we hope.

berry cake

look at these berries all frosty from the freezer, i love watching them defrost, i know weirdo but really there are worse things to get excited about.

So after blitzing the berries in a food processor you have to push them through a sieve and you could see this in two lights, one think its a chore or two zone out and just do it the results are really worth it when you take out the seeds. its still al little frozen here and it looks like a fancy sherbet but really its a bit bitter
The recipe said to add a little food colouring but in real life this batter was such a vibrant colour maybe my picture taking could be on my list of things i need to work on.
Cream cheese frosting what could be better my babies almost left me none for the cake. And yes those are lumps in the frosting you can see but i dont care!!

Well thats all there is i have to say it tasted way better than it looks and i think it looks really yummy!! NEXT
